| Résumé : |
This book is an “all-in-one” resource focused on designing and implementing embedded control for mobile robotic applications.
It targets both practitioners and students: senior undergraduates, graduate students, researchers and engineering professionals who work with embedded systems and mobile robots. It presents not only controller design but also implementation on real embedded platforms (including microprocessors, FPGAs, etc), stability analyses, and the special constraints of embedded control in mobile robotics. |
| Note de contenu : |
Embedded control in mobile robotics demands attention to both algorithmic design and real-world hardware/implementation constraints (e.g., available computing power, discretisation, sensor/actuator interfaces, latency).
The book encourages two complementary design philosophies: top-down (starting from system requirements and architecture down to hardware) and bottom-up (starting from hardware capabilities and building up to control/algorithm implementation). Implementation matters: the authors provide practical codes (MATLAB for simulation, Embedded C and Verilog for embedded platforms) to make the approach concrete. Use of FPGAs (rather than just microcontrollers) for certain embedded control tasks in robotics is given a serious treatment, recognizing that high-speed or parallel hardware may be needed for real-time robotic control tasks. When moving from continuous to discrete time, particular caution must be given to stability, discretisation errors, quantisation, and hardware/software co-design issues. |
